“DATA CUBES, A MAJOR ADVANCE IN MANAGING AND ANALYSING SPATIO-TEMPORAL SATELLITE AND OTHER RASTER DATA”

Join us on Wednesday 10 January at 13:00 Irish time for our first monthly webinar of the new year.  Prof Peter Baumann, professor of Computer Science at Jacobs University, Bremen, Germany will give a presentation which will deal with basic issues such as what is a Datacube, the strengths/benefits of Datacube technology, Datacube standards, cutting edge Datacube research areas, uses for Datacubes and existing current examples, including the rasdaman Data Cube engine which Prof Baumann has architected.

Dr. Peter Baumann is Professor of Computer Science, inventor, and entrepreneur. At Jacobs University, Bremen, Germany he researches on scalable multi-dimensional datacubes and their application in science and engineering. He has published 150+ book chapters and journal and conference articles, holds international patents on array database technology, and has received numerous international innovation awards for his work. As inventor of the rasdaman Array Database system, which is in operational use on petabyte-scale spatio-temporal databases, he has pioneered the field of array databases. For its successful commercialization he has founded and leads hitech spinoff, rasdaman GmbH. Peter Baumann is an active, often leading, contributor to datacube standardization.  In 2014 he was honored with the prestigious OGC Kenneth Gardels Award.
